Recommended Viewing: Take What You Can Carry & Contemporary Color

Two exciting films by the finest American independent filmmakers should be made accessible in the next few months: Matt Porterfield's Take What You Can Carry and Bill and Turner Ross' Contemporary Color. Porterfield's first film outside of Baltimore, Take What You Can Carry follows a dancer (who is played by the great Hannah Gross) as she gets ready for a new performance in Berlin and experiences loneliness from being abroad. While the Ross brothers continue their singular and generous documentary oeuvre and this time initiated by David Byrne on the world of high school color guards. Contemporary Color blends together the dance films of Maya Deren and Yvonne Rainer with the psychedelic trip of Walt Disney's Fantasia.
